More from the collection

A lot of inspiration for my own work comes from book covers. Personally I am quite a heavy reader as well, and I have a great interest in the further publishing world. With that in mind, most of my work is suitable for genre work. I am also open to editorial illustrations or interiors to accompany the text. Mockups and various prototype can also be provided along the process itself.

People do judge books by their covers, no matter how the old saying goes. You want to stand out on a bookshelf, catch someone’s eye past the title and be attractive to your aimed audience. Characters, environments, and combinations of both through scenes are always stand out, promising the adventure on the outside that’s within. Likewise for other publications, a snazzy composition and unique colour combinations encourage people to look then buy, just for the delight of a well put-together book. From hardcover to softcover, magazine to pamphlet, anything goes.

Whether you are an agent, editor, or author whose looking for the cover of their upcoming release, I can provide what you need. I also encourage self-publishing authors to reach out; having a unique and well designed cover is worth it for standing out, especially in competitive digital spaces such as Kindle. I am also comfortable with matching pre-existing series style-sets, and can adjust book covers to go along with choices in font and colour.

How it works

  1. Send your brief. Your project and any questions. No commitment.
  2. Get a reply in one business day from me. Response towards your project, and additional clarification such as budget if required.
  3. Project begins. Process on work starts once everything has been agreed upon and any upfront fees.

Budget guidance

Most covers land between $800 and $2,500 CAD depending on rights and timeline; editorial spots start around $250.

Every quote names its usage rights in plain words, so you always know what you are buying.

Common questions

Do you leave room for the title and type?

Yes, space will always be allotted for the necessary text and can be adaptable for titles, quotes, and any other information. I can work alongside design teams to arrange where such information will go, though with the nature of licensing fonts, they will either have to be provided ahead of time or arranged later in-house.

How fast can you turn an editorial piece around?

Usually one to two weeks for a single illustration, with adequate room for revisions. I usually aim to have the rough's finished and decided upon quickly. Tighter deadlines can be accommodated and discussed upon further for their execution.

What do you need from us to start a cover?

Materials such as a relevant segment of a manuscript or a synopsis, requirements for trim/dpi/dimensions, and planning of type or titles to be added before thumbnailing. And of course, what you as an editor, agent, or author want on your cover to begin with.

Can you do a wraparound, or match a series look?

Yes and yes. Again, set dimensions for print is important, especially considering how many sizes physically printed media can have. I can match a pre-existing look of a series, or start planning one ahead of time for future publications with regards for customer recognition and standing out on a seller's shelf.

What rights do we get?

Licenses can be discussed in email and agreed upon in signage, though the usual expectation is fully exclusive and commercial. NDA's are also always expected, though I ask to be credited once published per-usual industry practices, such as my name (and website) printed within the back or in an inside page.
